There’s this post about how if your feminism doesn’t include destroying racism it’s white supremacy.
This is why it’s white supremacy. Like yeah Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a man, but he’s also a man of color. Gloating about how Lucy, a film where a white woman who’s shown to be shooting men of color for not speaking English in a country where English isn’t widely spoken… isn’t intersectional feminism. Instead it’s the essence of white feminism because it’s glorifying the white hero in a non white country, when we are less than a century away from white Europe having colonized the majority of what is now referred as “third world countries” make no mistake colonialism is not dead. So basically if you see Lucy in the theater unfollow me rn.
Boycott Lucy watch Hercules.

I watched Hercules today.  It was a good film, with great supporting actors, quite a few funny moments, Ian McShane (YES) and a lot of action. The Rock proves to be a very good actor, and really sells the character of Hercules.
I’m not surprised the imagery being used around Lucy leading Hercules in the box office.  It feeds on all the negative views of the “Far East” that Hollywood has been milking for years.  Nothing has changed really.  I will say this… we’ve already known that white women lead movies (action or otherwise) sell.  We know that by looking at all the romantic dramas, adventure shows, and YA adaptations lead by young white women that make money.  So yeah, we’ll get MORE white women lead dramas, action, romantic comedies, and sci-fi movies.  But will that mean we’ll see Black, Asian, and Latinas getting to lead movies, too, since female lead action movies are selling and have been for the last 10 years? NOPE.
But “yay feminism”… or some shit.

My friend mentioned (just yesterday actually) that English is pretty widely used in Taiwan, the population has a 95% literacy rate, and that English is compulsory at a certain age…so Lucy’s pretty damn ignorant on a meta-level (as if we didn’t already know that just by viewing the trailer).
Those headlines remind me of those “kill all men” memes.

OKAY HEAR ME OUT yes definitely Lucy is racist bullshit OK but don’t go and see Hercules.Steve Moore, the guy who wrote the comic it’s based on, received no payment relating to the comic being picked up for film treatment, and in consideration of that asked that his name not be attached to the film. Following his death, his name became increasingly used to promote the film to capitalize upon the surge of interest in Steve Moore’s passing, adding extra insult to injury."The only thing I am glad of is that apparently they’re not putting my name on it. Because it sounds like it’s going to be idiotic shit"
Don’t get me wrong I fucking love The Rock, but look at how prominently they use Steve’s name on the poster. Scumbags.
So anyway sorry to derail this post on intersectionality, DON’T SEE EITHER OF THESE FILMS maybe watch Snowpiercer instead which is awesome and at least has a few poc characters

I really feel for Steve Moore as a creator here, but honestly?
You get the contract you sign.  If he didn’t want his work used in a film without getting paid, he shouldn’t have signed a contract allowing that to happen.  That was a mistake.
And if the movie were bad, like really terrible, I’d be saying “wow you’re trampling on a guy’s memory here.”  But people are saying it’s good, and Dwayne Johnson is a good actor, and I think the net cultural effect is positive.
Also, I think that if Moore’s name has been used on the posters, that’s either because he agreed for that to be allowed in a contract, or his estate agreed.  Otherwise they’d have a reasonable lawsuit, and if they do I hope they sue and get a bajillion dollars from the studio.
That said, The Rock didn’t cook up the BS that the studio brought on the Moore estate, and I think we shouldn’t be like “PUNISH EVERYONE WHO WAS JUST DOING THEIR JOB AND MADE A GOOD MOVIE ‘CUZ THIS ONE GUY DIDN’T HOLD OUT FOR A BETTER CONTRACT THEN DIED.”
People worked hard on the film.  They’re creators too.  If it’s good, let it stand on that.

They’ve all already been paid, though. When you go or don’t go to a movie, the only people you’re helping or harming are A) the very small number of people who were able to get points on the gross as part of their contract, like the big name lead, and B) the producers and other shot-callers who actually were the ones who made the decisions you dislike. Hell, as we’ve seen with special effects houses lately, by the time you go see a movie, everyone whose hardworking involvement you want to support has probably already been paid *and fired*.
Sorry, I’ve just thought about this a bit, because I was always pissed off by those anti-piracy commercials that tried to imply to people that piracy takes money directly out of the pocket of Lenny, the poor, hard-working audio guy, etc.

Yeah, but how well the movie does will directly affect their future job prospects, keep that in mind.

People, people, there is a third way.

Go see Boyhood instead.
Lucy and Hercules are both stupid movies.
Don’t see stupid movies.

Lucy only major competition was Hercules, don’t be surprised that Lucy won.

I don’t care what kind of blog I have I will blog this no matter what.

"Craving sensation: feeling unreal" was such a huge part of the beginning of my relapse. I was convinced that people in front of me didn’t even exist and I kept touching things and trying to feel sensation. I’m reblogging because I know that that was so horrifying for me and I never want anyone else to go through it.

Just in case this can help someone. Some suggestions also seem harmful (eating a hot pepper really hurts!!!) but steps to feeling better and not self harming is most important. Sending you love and light

STOP SCROLLING! Please reblog this vitally important information because at least one of your followers is self-harming. Thank you!

Ok but of course the servants and thieves are black ok i see yall

So when I saw this I thought “oh is this that movie where all the ancient Egyptian gods are gonna be white people I heard about a while ago?” so I checked IMDB and apparently No! There’s a completely different upcoming ancient Egypt movie coming up with a bunch of white dudes playing the lion’s share of the cast called Gods of Egypt featuring gems like Jaime Lannister Horus and Barbossa Ra.

BATMAN IS NOT MOSES!
